Stateful

Stateful systems or applications maintain and rely on state or data associated with previous interactions or events.

Having past information, stateful systems can use this data to inform to inform present executions. For example, a stateful firewall may collect information about the connections passing through it and use this data to identify patterns of malicious behavior and subsequently block specific connections.
