Slang and Colloquialisms

  • Don’t use idioms, slang, and colloquialisms as a central metaphor in your writing, and very sparingly aside.

    Our audience is global, and not all slang and colloquialisms translates well outside of the founding culture.

  • Use “log in to” rather than “log into”.

  • “Backup” is a noun. “Back up” is a phrasal verb.

    I need to restore from a backup. I need to back up my files.

  • “Setup” is a noun. “Set up” is a phrasal verb.

    I completed the setup. I need to set up my workspace.

  • “Frontend” and “backend” are both nouns and adjectives.

  • Use “macOS”, not “Mac”, “OS X”, or other variants.
